Abstract

On the occasion of the canonization of Saint Nuno Alvarez Pereira (April 25th, 2009) the Author tries to approach the history of the  Portuguese Carmel of his time in order to frame his figure in the historical context of the Carmelite Order and see him in this light. The  article rereads the life of the Constable Saint in relation to the Carmelite Order, in which he retired, winning the last and decisive  battle, that of humility and holy life in the seclusion of his convent cell in the heart of Lisbon.
