Abstract

Father Perrella is a Servite friar and principal of the Pontifical Marianum Institute in Rome. This book is the product of several decades  of teaching and research which have also seen a considerable body of writings on Mary from his pen on subjects such as her virginity,  her ecumenical dimension, her apparitions, John Paul II’s teaching on her and finally her position as Immaculate and Assumed into  heaven. Perrella underlines from the very beginning of this present work that the study of Mary is an integral part of Christian  theology, in dialogue with other non Roman Catholic traditions, but without losing sight of her centrality. It is for this reason,  according Father Perrella, that the teaching of Mary in universities and seminaries cannot be superficial, apologetic, fundamentalist or  nostalgic. Instead Mariology must follow a three-way approach: intellectual, spiritual and pastoral.
