Jeremy Bonner & Mary Beth Fraser Connolly & Christopher Denny (eds.), Empowering the People of God. Catholic Action before and after Vatican II
Abstract
Little did know Pius X (or did he?!) in Fermo proposito that the multifaceted reality of diverse groups referred to “under the general name of ‘Catholic Action’”, whose aim was to transform society in all its layers, would develop into a ‘movement’ which speaks its own mind independently of the hierarchy, openly confronts it and pushes for the democratization of the Catholic Church. What bonded the Catholic Action movement, before Vatican II, was the endorsement of the cohesiveness of Catholic faith and morals as presented by the Magisterium.
