Abstract

It is a great plesaure for me to write a few words on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of Carmelus. Fr. Kilian Lynch, Prior General from 1947-1959, had a real commitment to the intellectual life of the Order. He founded the Carmelite Institute in 1951 to encourage the development of this very important aspect of Carmelite life. The Institute was to promote the study of Carmelite topics in history, Mariology and spirituality. The Institute soon found it to be possible to publish a scientific journal in which issues of Carmelite life and spirituality could be explored.
