Resumen

Father Matthew's interest in church history is connected with two aspects of his life. His family comes from “Sudetenland”, a region of  German as well as of Czech cultural influence. In this context he always had an eye for Eastern Europe from Poland to Hungary.  Further, during his studies in Rome he started to discover the General Archives of the Order as an important source for Carmelite  history in Germany. He rendered his services in building up the provincial archives at Bamberg, in collecting lots of historical information and in encouraging young friars to work for higher theological degrees.
