Significado del encuentro entre Teresa y Edith
Resumen
During the celebrations of the 5th centenary of the birth of Saint Teresa of Jesus, it was impossible not to be aware of the influence she has had down through the centuries and up to the present day. One somewhat paradigmatic example of the importance of Teresa is the story of Edith Stein. Even though it has been said erroneously that her conversion came as a result of reading the Life of Teresa of Jesus, there can be no doubt about the influence and how deeply in tune with one another these two women were. This present work is about bringing out that unity in life and in teaching, so that we can see clearly to what extent the mystical influenced the philosophical, and to what extent contemporary philosophy has the capacity to enlighten the mystical experience and be enlightened by it. From an existential and doctrinal point of view, Edith’s encounter with Teresa illustrates what unites when the quest for the truth is the motivating factor in life: phenomenology and mysticism become one on a journey that turns the gift of knowing into a attitude of humility, of being willing to learn and of service.
