Santa María Magdalena de Pazzi en la literatura espiritual española
Resumen
Fr. Pablo Mª Garrido († 2015) published in 2000 a work in which he investigated the resonance of the Italian Carmelite saints in the Spanish spiritual literature. Now, in this article, he attempts to demonstrate, using sources of the period and the Castilian literature, that the influence of St. Mary Magdalen de’ Pazzi is undeniable. After her beatification in 1626, and her canonization in 1669, around the Spanish geography, manifestations of worship and devotion to this Florentine ecstatic mystical nun started to spread, as well as pious and devotional publications. We can underline the baroque hagiographies, sermons of the celebrations of the beatification and canonization, and the subsequent translation of her writings. One observation is evident, according to the author: despite the alleged favorable reception that the figure of St. Magdalen de’ Pazzi had in the Iberian lineage, we find out that there is still no translation of her writings into Spanish.
