“El cantar del alma que se huelga de conocer a Dios por Fe” y su génesis en la reclusión carcelaria de San Juan de la Cruz en Toledo
Resumen
The chronological link between the communication of Theotoucoupulos with the Discalced Carmelites of Saint Joseph and his painting of the ‘Paisaje’ is a subject worthy of reflection. The alluded to series of ‘Grecoesque’ paintings is intriguing since it depicts a buiding that may well have been the Calced Carmelite Convent. These particulars do not prove categorically that, in the moment of the artistic origin of the ‘Paisaje’, Domenikos may have resolved to represent the spiritual epic poem of Friar John. But the possibility cannot be discarded either.
