Prayer as ‘locus’ and mode of being with Edith Stein

Resumen

In this article, it is investigated how prayer became to play a central role in the life of the Carmelite saint Teresia Benedicta a Cruce,  also known as the philosopher Edith Stein. Based upon some biographic notes, it is shown how prayer was related to her continuous  quest for truth. Moreover, prayer became increasingly important in her life by providing a ‘home’ and a way of life. Several forms of  prayer can be seen with Edith Stein, originating both from the monastic (Carmelite) and broader liturgical traditions. 
It is also demonstrated how Stein’s philosophical education and her (phenomenological) notions of interiority and personhood are  related to the role that prayer and the soul play in the religious and mystical experience.
